Apple completes A16 chip design and has contracted TSMC's 120,000-150,000 4nm production capacity

As usual, Apple will launch a new generation of iPhone 14 series in September this year, and the upcoming new products will be equipped with Apple's newly developed A16 bionic chip. It has been reported recently that the design of the Apple A16 bionic chip has been completed, and mass production is expected to begin in the second half of this year.

According to reports, Apple's A16 bionic chip uses TSMC's 4nm process. At present, Apple has contracted a production capacity of 120,000 to 150,000 pieces, which can meet the needs of new iPhones, iPads and other products. In addition, due to the shortage of TSMC's 4nm process production capacity, Apple has also accepted TSMC's price increase plan.

Earlier media reports said that many manufacturers are competing for TSMC's production capacity, and many manufacturers, including Apple, have also paid TSMC in advance. It is expected that in 2022, TSMC will receive an advance payment of TWD 150 billion.

In order to increase production capacity, TSMC has launched a three-year $100 billion investment plan in 2021. TSMC also plans to increase capital expenditures in 2022 while continuing to build new capacity to meet the needs of our customers.
