 With Android 11, Google has imposed additional restrictions on how the camera application can be inserted into the system. Specifically, it limits the operations that camera applications other than the default built-in applications will be able to perform.

According to Android Police, Google requires third-party applications that do not have their own camera function to only start the default camera application to perform image or video capture. Before that, a dialog box will be shown to users, allowing them to choose from the camera apps installed on their devices.

The developer documentation shows:

Starting from Android 11, only the pre-installed system camera app can respond to the following intent actions:

android.media.action.VIDEO _CAPTURE

android.media.action.IMAGE_ CAPTURE

android.media.action.IMAGE_ _CAPTURE_ SECURE

If multiple pre-installed system camera applications are available, the system will display a dialog box for the user to select an application. If you want your app to use a specific third-party camera app to capture images or videos on its behalf, you can make these intents clear by setting the package name or components for the intent.

Google said this is done for security reasons, and on the consumer side, it is difficult to see how big a transaction this will be for most people. If you change the default camera application to another camera application, you will not notice the change in most common situations, such as quickly adjusting the shape of the photo by double-clicking the power button.

In other words, in one use case, this becomes very troublesome. If the user sets another application as the default camera application and then disables the built-in camera application, it will effectively destroy the system. You must first re-enable and use the preferred camera option at the same time to capture images in applications without camera functionality. This is not ideal, but it is not terrible either.
